Holiday Weight Gain… Your Personal Grinch

The Holidays are upon us, and body weight concerns around or after the Holiday season are common for many people. The Holiday season brings an abundance of festive foods and treats and we may find ourselves struggling to maintain our weight or lose it after the parties are over (remember all of those New Years diets).

What am I to do?

First and foremost, don’t be too hard on yourself! This is a time for celebration, and the special moments with friends and family should never be taken for granted.

What simple steps can I follow to help limit the gain?

  1. Maintain a Balanced Diet: Try to balance your holiday indulgences with fruits, vegetables, and foods high in protein.

  2. Portion Control: Be mindful of portion sizes, especially when there are a lot of choices. Use smaller plates and take smaller servings.

  3. Stay Active: Continue your regular exercise routine or find ways to get some extra steps in such as parking further away or taking the stairs.

  4. Plan Ahead: If you know you’ll be attending a holiday gathering with indulgent food, plan out meals and snacks throughout the day to balance this out. Look over the menu beforehand so you can make a healthier decision.

  5. Stay Hydrated: Drinking water can help control your appetite and prevent overeating. A glass of room temperature water before eating will help fill your belly.

  6. Moderation is Key: Enjoy your favorite holiday treats in moderation, rather than depriving yourself completely. Go ahead, have grandma’s cookies!

  7. Get Adequate Sleep: A good night’s sleep can help regulate appetite and reduce the likelihood of overeating. Try melatonin 30 minutes before bedtime, reading in bed, meditation, or some quiet spa music.

I need more help, is there anything else I can do?

We are here for you! At Believe Image we understand that weight loss is hard and sometimes it takes more than just great habits to reach your goals.

Physician-directed weight loss, often referred to as medically supervised weight loss, is a supervised approach to losing weight under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

Some components of this approach:

  1. A Medical Evaluation: This is important to assess your overall health, including any underlying medical conditions, as many of these hidden issues aren’t checked regularly and can make it hard or even impossible to lose weight. Have you had your thyroid, vitamin levels, or hormone levels checked lately?
  2. Monitoring and Support: Regular check-ins with the physician are crucial to follow progress, make adjustments to your plan and medication as needed, and provide ongoing support and guidance. We are available when you need us for questions or concerns.
  3. Medications: There are several options out there for weight loss including Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, semaglutide, terzepatide, phentermine, naltrexone, peptides, and vitamin supplements. Your individual history and goals will help determine which of these might be right for you.
